2023: the year in which Princess Leonor comes of age and swears the Constitution

The eldest daughter of Philip VI y Joy He turns 18 on October 31, 2023. His countdown to the age of majority and to the oath of the Constitution begins. These are his challenges.

Eleanor is very old. At her age, young people change almost in real time. Due to her condition as her heir, each step she takes throughout these months will be one more step towards that historic moment because the princess symbolizes the future of the institution and she also represents continuity. The act of swearing in is a solemn ceremony that we will see in the Sessions Hall of the Congress of Deputies.

“Keep and keep the Constitution and laws”

Just like her father Don Felipe did on her 18th birthday, the princess will swear the Magna Carta and pronounce before the Cortes Generales that of “keeping and keeping the Constitution and the laws.” However, in the case of the princess it will be different: as has been published, this act will not take place on the same day that the eldest daughter of the Kings blows out the candles because by then, in all probability, Congress and the Senate will be dissolved. Therefore, we will have to wait until the general elections are called, we vote and the new parliament is formed. We are going to December 2023.

your graduation

Another basic point for the Princess of Asturias this year: her graduation. Leonor will finish her second year International Baccalaureate studies at UWC Atlantic College in Wales. With the cycle completed, she will have graduated and will have her diploma. The last day of the course will be May 20. During her two-year stay at the United World Colleges boarding school in Wales, the Reyes’ daughter has gained autonomy, security and independence. These are values that accompany her in that process of maturity towards the age of 18. I saw it in Oviedo, last October, while she gave a speech at the awards ceremony that bear her name. she chose words that connect her to her centennial generation: “Young people are aware that the world has changed.” She spoke of “work”, “effort”, “future”, “enthusiasm” and “responsibility”, as a foundation of values. The script for her intervention was forged on a firm “I care”, which she repeated 10 times as a sign of commitment. “In a few days I will be 17 years old,” he said then. And he slipped the illusion of “keep learning”.

His military training

Also essential, his military training. A journey in the Army for which he has the help of his father. Don Felipe began his studies at the General Military Academy of Zaragoza in 1985. He was 17 years old. He continued at the Marin Naval Military School and at the San Javier General Air Academy. In July 1989 he received the offices of Infantry Lieutenant, Naval Ensign and Aviation Weapon Lieutenant. In this journey that Leonor faces, she has her father as a guide.

In recent years, its projection has increased. It has gained in presence and visibility. 2021 was the year of his solo debut, without his parents. 2022, the year of independence, autonomy and self-confidence. 2023 will be the time to consolidate all those learning values when you come of age.

Letizia, example of effort and work

At the event at the Red Cross headquarters in Madrid, which we covered in the media on December 15, the Princess of Asturias showed herself to be more self-confident, proactive and very excited to continue learning. Behind that security is her mother, Letizia. An example for her two daughters of effort, work, dedication and professionalism. Also responsibility, preparation and commitment to duty.

Leonor has also gone through a learning process at the Welsh school, where she has participated in various volunteer programs and has exercised skills such as autonomy, decision-making and proactivity. In the network of United World Colleges, these skills are valued as training tools to prepare the path of students towards adulthood. Leonor is already on the takeoff runway.
