Zverev, on Ferrer: “He's the best coach I've ever had”

Alexander Zverev faces a new challenge in search of his first Grand Slam at the next Australian Open (8-21 February). The German tennis player will arrive at the Australian Grand Slam with his father as coach after breaking with David Ferrer as coach.

Speaking to Bild am Sonntag, Zverev for the moment rejected having another German tennis legend, Boris Becker, as coach. “We have been talking to Boris Becker for years. We maintain very good contact. But whether he is my coach or not will not be a problem in the coming months.”

Zverev himself regretted that his relationship with Ferrer was ending and did not hesitate to praise the Alicante man, while leaving the door open to a possible return. “I really liked training with David Ferrer. Together with my father he is the best coach I have ever had. We agreed a lot in terms of personality. We left everything open for the future.”

Becker, on the breakup of the tandem Zverev-Ferrer: “It's a shame”

Boris Becker also wanted to comment on the end of the contractual relationship between Alexander Zverev and David Ferrer. Speaking to Eurosport Deutschland, the German tennis legend lamented this fact. “It is a pity that Ferrer is not training Zverev. The two seemed to have found good chemistry, which was demonstrated with success on the track.”

Becker also made reference to Zverev's year 2020, with great results on the track but visibly affected by the problems off it. “A lot has happened to Sascha in the past year, both on the track and in his private life. In sports, he is possibly at his best, but privately he has had the most difficult moments. This is how you grow in life. “

Finally, Zverev's interest in having a great coach in his ranks and the important role played by coaches in tennis stands out. “It is no surprise that Zverev has wanted a great coach in recent years. Coaches are very important. Zverev's father also knows tennis perfectly. “
