Demi Vollering conquers La Vuelta Femenina with victory in the last stage

MADRID, 5 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Dutch cyclist Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx-Protime) has won the second edition of La Vuelta Femenina 24 by Carrefour.es after defending her position at the head of the general classification this Sunday by conquering the eighth and final stage, of 89.5 kilometers between the Telefónica District of Madrid and the Valdesquí station.

In the queen stage of the Spanish round, Vollering, who had dressed in red after the fifth day, attacked 6.5 kilometers from the finish line, in the middle of the ascent to Valdesquí, and sealed his second victory of the edition with 29 seconds at the finish line on the French Évita Muzic (FDJ-SUEZ) and 33 on the also Dutch Riejanne Markus (Visma-Lease a Bike).

With this, Vollering, second in the last edition after Annemiek van Vleuten, guaranteed victory in the general classification, where she extended the advantage over her pursuers, Markus herself, to 1:49, and the Italian, Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl- Trek), at 2:00, which completed the final podium of the event.

Jelena Eric (Movistar Team), Elena Cecchini (SD Worx-Protime), Brodie Chapman (Lidl-Trek), mountain classification leader Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ), Abi Smith (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL), Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike), Alessia Vigilia (FDJ-SUEZ), Flora Perkins (Fenix-Deceuninck), Silke Smulders (Liv-AlUla-Jayco), Sarah Gigante, Mireia Benito (AG Insurance-Soudal), Lily Williams (Human Powered Health) and Magdeleine Vallieres (EF Education-Cannondale) made up the first break of the day at kilometer 15.

The escape adventure ended three kilometers from the top of the first-class port of La Morcuera, where the Dutch Pauliena Rooijakkers (Fenix-Deceuninck) attacked. However, the push of the FDJ-SUEZ allowed Évita Muzic to lead the group of favorites at the top of La Morcuera.

In the descent Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ) tried, neutralized 9.5 kilometers from the finish line, neutralized shortly after, and with only 6.5 kilometers ahead Demi Vollering dealt the final blow imposing her strong pace; The Dutchwoman also managed to win the mountain classification, while the points classification was already decided in favor of Marianne Vos (Team Visma-Lease a Bike).

In the fight for second place on the overall podium, the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) gave in at the beginning of the climb to Valdesquí and Riejanne Markus (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) did not waste it.
