This Sunday, the Polytechnic University of Valencia hosts the historic first day of the first 'A-Ball' league, a sport born within it and that has transformed wheelchair soccer, with the participation of six clubs.
This league has the support of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Higher Sports Council (CSD), and will be made up of the Atlético de Madrid Foundation, the AFAE A-Ball Club, the CD OCEJA A-Ball Cantabria , the Valencia CF Football Players Association, the A-Ball UPV IN LENNOX and the Vilasport de Vila-real, which will be measured in the Central-North and East zones.
This Sunday, February 18, the Valencia CF Football Players Association and the A-Ball UPV IN LENNOX will be in charge of opening a competition that will run until April 28 with a format of a first phase and then a final phase. In addition, at the beginning of June the Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas (Madrid) will host the Spanish Super Cup.
The launch of the first 'A-Ball' league in history has had support such as that of former Real Madrid footballer José Emilio Amavisca, as well as the support of JOMA, the UPV Sports Management Master, Global Omnium, Lennox and Orthoprono. This modality was born from an initiative of the Polytechnic University and the Valencia CF Football Players Association through its president, Fernando Giner, who for years have designed the adapted chairs and have configured the rules of a new inclusive sport.
The matches will be played on indoor soccer fields with five players for each team and four 10-minute periods. This 'chair soccer' is based on the rules of futsal and each player cannot hold the ball for more than five seconds in the gripper that accompanies his chair or give more than four impulses to the ball.
