The Inter-Juve referee acknowledges that not sending Pjanic off “was a mistake”

Three years ago the battle for the scudetto between Juventus and Naples moved until the end of the championship. On April 28, a week after the victory of the Southerners in Turin, Vecchia Signora visited Inter at San Siro. The Nerazzurri were left with ten after just 18 minutes and managed to overcome the early goal of Douglas Costa with Icardi and one on Barzagli's own goal. La Vecchia Signora, in the final moments of the confrontation, took advantage of the fatigue of the Milanese and he turned the scoreboard with Cuadrado and Higuaín, achieving a decisive victory for the title.

In minute 58, however, there was a clash between Pjanic and Rafinha that is still talked about. The Juventino hit his rival in the face in a disputed ball, he had already been booked and committed a foul that, at least, it should cost you another card. The referee Daniele Orsato, a few meters from the play, did not intervene, and neither did the VAR. The controversy was enormous and Maurzio Sarri, Naples coach at that time, the next day he fell to Fiorentina and affirmed that his players had lost “already in the hotel”, watching the San Siro game.

If the case is discussed again today, it is because Alfredo Trentalange, the new head of the Italian referees, wants to change the image of the braids and his revolution began with the first interview of an active referee. Daniele Orsato, then, intervened during the historic Rai program, '90 ° Minute ', and commented on the old topic: “It is not necessary to see the play again, it is without a doubt a mistake. I was very close and I couldn't see the crash well, I have misjudged it. The VAR could not intervene (as it was a possible yellow), and the ruling remained. “And since 2018, after this match, Orsato did not lead an Inter match again: “It is true, but I go where they send me,” he said. The referee stated that for him “it is not a problem to recognize a mistake” and that the objective is to continue working “so that they do not happen again.”

Orsato, finally, revealed that Cristiano wanted to see the clock to know “how it worked” when, during the last Juve-Roma, the Hawkeye denied him somewhat, and that it would not be a problem to show all the conversations with the VAR: “We have nothing to hide.”
