The Gasol Foundation and BNP Paribas Cardif promote healthy habits among 4,000 children in the Community of Madrid

MADRID, 3 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Gasol Foundation and BNP Paribas Cardif promoted healthy habits among 4,000 boys and girls in the Community of Madrid through the SEÍSMO project, a program that has been deployed in 14 educational centers within the Physical Education subject, according to a statement.

It is the first time that the project has been carried out outside of Catalonia, thanks to the collaboration of 210 teachers and the insurance company. “The reception of SEÍSMO in Madrid has been spectacular: the educational centres, the teachers and the children themselves are full of enthusiasm for being part of the project”, commented Gisela López, project technician at the Gasol Foundation in Madrid.

“The planning, the preliminary work and the flexibility in implementation that BNP Paribas Cardif has allowed us are highly valued. In addition, the volunteers are very involved and motivated with the project, showing great sensitivity and proactivity. The participants are very grateful and they are aware that this is a unique opportunity to improve the healthy habits of the entire community,” he added.

In this 2022-2023 academic year, the SEÍSMO project will be present in 17 educational centers in the Community of Madrid, with the incorporation of the School Playground Module starting in January. This will have the objective, according to the statement, of providing the educational centers of the SEÍSMO network with tools, advice and activities to promote healthy habits during recess time.

In addition, the action of the Gasol Foundation will arrive in Portugal for the first time, with the SAFALÍN project, which has the support of the Santa Casa de Misericordia and the Luis Figo Foundation.

“For the BNP Paribas Cardif team, it is a pleasure to be part of the healthy movement of the Gasol Foundation through SEÍSMO in Madrid and SAFALÍN in Portugal. Reducing childhood obesity is synonymous with reducing social inequalities in health and doing so together with thousands of children and families is fundamental to building a fairer and healthier society”, said Glória Ferreira, Director of CSR Communication at BNP Paribas Cardif Iberia.

The preliminary results of the project show that the prevalence of severe obesity is almost triple in the children participating in SEÍSMO than in the national average. This is due to the fact that “the majority of educational centers participating in the project are located in environments of socioeconomic vulnerability, showing the relationship between social inequalities and the health of the smallest”.

“SEÍSMO is the result of the need to promote healthy lifestyles across the board: schools are an ideal environment to grow up healthy and thus reduce childhood obesity,” said Cristina Ribes, Executive Director of the Gasol Foundation in Europe. “We are very excited about the possibility of increasing the positive impact on the lives of thousands of children in Spain and Portugal, thanks to partners such as BNP Paribas Cardif,” she added.
