The final of the European Super Cup to be played by Sevilla and Bayern on September 24 in Budapest runs the risk of being suspended. The Hungarian government announced this Friday that next September 1, and for at least a month, the border will close to the entry of foreigners to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The announcement of the closure of the Hungarian borders was made by the prime minister's chief of staff, Gergeley Gulyas. However, it left the door open to some exceptions such as military convoys, humanitarian causes or business or business trips.
The importance of the European Super Cup for Hungary will surely be considered within one of those exceptions to the prohibition to enter the country, but that decision will remain pending a meeting between UEFA and the Hungarian government. At the moment it is approved that 3,000 tickets are sold between the fans of the two teams. Each of these fans must have failed two medical tests, and their temperature will be taken before entering the stadium. The Hungarian Federation is still negotiating some aspects with UEFA, since it wants to increase the number of public to 21,000 spectators. However, everything may change in the coming weeks. This Saturday there will be a meeting to finalize more details after the decision of the Hungarian government.
