Sainz: “Montmeló has a lot of history for me, it’s where I fell in love with F1”

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya presents the imminent Spanish GP

MADRID, 31 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) admitted this Wednesday that the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya “has a lot of history” for his sporting career, pointing out that it is where he fell in love with Formula 1, whose World Championship will have its eighth round from 2 to 4 June at the Spanish Grand Prix.

“This is my ninth year and I don’t understand it. It seems like yesterday when I made my debut with Toro Rosso in 2015. Also, it was my best qualifying so far. It’s a circuit that has a lot of history for me, it’s where I fell in love with F1 , I met Marc Gené, Pedro de la Rosa and Fernando Alonso at the hands of my father. That’s when I decided I wanted to be a driver”, commented the Madrid driver of Ferrari.

In this sense, he said excitedly that “it is a very special race” always on the calendar. “It’s hard for me to tell people what it’s like to run at home. Going in and out of the circuit is seeing people who encourage you, who always have good words. I’m going to try to enjoy it to the fullest as always,” said Sainz during the presentation of the imminent Spanish GP on the Montmeló track.

The man from Madrid also highlighted that “it is the ideal circuit to launch an aerodynamic package”. “Barcelona is the place that we all mark on the calendar to test certain advances on Friday to implement them on Saturday and Sunday. We hope to take a small step forward this weekend, pass Aston Martin and face Red Bull, although we know that all they will bring improvements,” said Sainz.

Thus, this race chose the Formula 1 Barcelona Village as the setting for its presentation event. The event was chaired by Roger Torrent, president of the Circuit and Minister of Business and Labor; who was accompanied by Josep Mateu, president of the RACC; Pere Rodríguez, mayor of Montmeló; Pau Solanilla, Commissioner for Economic Promotion of the Barcelona City Council; among other authorities such as Josep Lluís Santamaría, general director of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
