PV Sindhu Becomes the First Golden Girl for India

P V Sindhu, the Indian Badminton star has created history by becoming the first Indian ever to win Gold at the BWF World Championships. She beat Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in the women’s singles final held on Sunday. And the game completed in just under 38 minutes.

The star player in the Indian Badminton arena chose to dedicate the win to her mother. She stated, “I dedicate this award to my mom; it’s her birthday today. Happy Birthday, mom”. She became the second badminton player to have won five medals and has been credited to have won the medals in all the colours – two bronze medals, two silver medals, and a gold medal.

Sindhu had been aggressive and precise with respect to the attacks. This was her third world final in a sequence. In 2017, she lost to the same player that she has beaten today. She finally won the final and made it clear that she was a proud Indian.

With Sai Praneeth winning the bronze medal in the men’s single’s final, this is the second medal that India could win. Interestingly enough, this was the 16th match between the two players. This is the fifth medal for Sindhu in the World Championships. She equates the record with Xhang Ning of China. She has won two silvers in the last two editions of the championship and thee were two bronze medals in 2013 and 2014.

So, it is a great day for the Indian Badminton fans – the first-ever World Badminton championship win ever. Entire India must be celebrating with the Golden Girl!
