The tennis player Pedro Martínez will replace the injured Marcel Granollers in the Davis Cup tie that the Spanish team will play against Romania on March 4 and 5 at the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella (Málaga), the Royal Spanish Federation confirmed this Sunday of Tennis (RFET).
“The Valencian Pedro Martínez Portero replaces Marcel Granollers in the Spanish MAPFRE tennis team that will play the Davis Cup by Rakuten Qualifier tie against Romania. Marcel Granollers is out due to a shoulder injury suffered this week in his participation in the ATP 500 tournament of Acapulco”, informed the RFET.
Pedro Martínez, who this Sunday will fight for the title at the tournament in Santiago (Chile), was already called up urgently by Sergi Bruguera at last year’s Davis Cup Finals in Madrid to replace Carlos Alcaraz, positive for COVID- 19 during the previous concentration, although he did not make his debut.
The 24-year-old from Alzira will travel to Marbella “directly from Santiago de Chile”, where this Sunday he will seek his first ATP title in the second final of his career. In case of winning, he would enter the world ‘Top 50’ for the first time.
The rest of the Spanish team made up of Roberto Bautista, Pablo Carreño, Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich, is scheduled to arrive in Marbella this Sunday along with Sergi Bruguera and the rest of the technical team.
