Papu Gómez, suspended for two years for a positive test with Sevilla before the World Cup

Monza, his club for three weeks, announces that it has received the notification from CELAD

MADRID, 20 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Argentine midfielder Alejandro Darío ‘Papu’ Gómez received official notification this Friday of a two-year sanction for doping, in a positive result from a year ago, when he was still a Sevilla player, which did not prevent him from playing in the World Cup in Qatar.

Italian Monza, the current world champion team, confirmed having received said notification from the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission (CELAD). “AC Monza has received today from FIFA, through the FIGC, notification of the first instance ruling of the Spanish Anti-Doping Commission, issued against the footballer Alejandro Darío Gómez. The ruling provides for a disqualification from sports practice for two years,” he announces.

“The presence of terbutaline was found in the footballer’s biological samples. It is a drug that was taken to calm a bronchospasm crisis in October 2022, when the footballer was registered with Sevilla FC,” he added.

A year after his positive test comes the sentence against a ‘Papu’ who was able to play in the World Cup in Qatar weeks after the positive test, which he went on to win with Argentina against France in the final. “AC Monza reserves the right to evaluate the next procedural steps,” concludes the note from the Italian club that signed the Argentine three weeks ago.
