Ortega Cano breaks down in his cotton interview with Sonsoles Ónega: “I apologize”

Jose Ortega Cano has chosen the Sonsoles Ónega set to give a comfortable interview before returning to the ring this Saturday. The right-hander bullfights at a Segovian festival mainly so that his son Jose Maria see him and the family spend some time ‘at ease’ with their tasks. In a few months, she will also do some banging on Samuel Flores’ farm.

The truth is that the widower of Rocío Jurado, at 70 years old in December, has not faced any brave bull this Thursday afternoon, since there have been no uncomfortable questions related to Rocío Carrasco nor to Ana María Aldón or any controversial aspect of his life.

Of course, the right-hander has spoken about Rocío Jurado and how sad he is without her almost twenty years after her death: “We remember her a lot. She is an immeasurable artist. How lucky I have been”he said about the woman of his life, at which point he shed a few tears.

He has also recalled some episodes experienced with ‘The Greatest’. Among them, the most difficult was her trip to Houston to try to cure herself of the pancreatic cancer that ended her life in 2006. “In the United States we met wonderful people who knew Rocío for her music. The doctors treated us well. Wonderful. Rocío was an example for everyone, but unfortunately her time was numbered. “Within all that, we had the best time possible in Houston,” she said, recalling that they visited a farm with “brave cows” to lift the legendary singer’s spirits.

Ortega has also spoken about his family, although he has not mentioned José Fernando, who remains admitted to the San Juan de Dios Psychiatric Center in Ciempozuelos: “Glory [Camila] She is an angel, she is wonderful. My sister Mari Carmen is extraordinary. All my family. We are working people and fighters“.

Regarding the moment in which he is currently, he said: “This is a very beautiful stage of my life. I feel good physically. I’m happy. I have a wonderful family and well, that’s where we are“.

However, after reviewing his 50 years in the ring, he has also expressed his remorse for some “strokes” that he preferred not to delve into: “I am very happy and satisfied with what I have done. Maybe I have to have some glimpse of my life, of my history, that has not been accurate. If so I apologize“.

And he explained: “I mean life itself. The life is a fight and I have had very difficult moments. I have almost died two or three times.. It has not been easy”.

Of course, for the bullfighter the balance is positive: “50 years since my beginnings and well, I am here, happy, I have a pretty good family. And well, life is going very well for me“.

After seven decades, many see it as unnecessary for him to stand in front of a bull again: “Some people will say why do I keep bullfighting?. What is now is a brushstroke that I am going to do, what in Segovia and also on Samuel Flores’ farm.” This Saturday, at La Lastrilla in Segovia, he shares the bill with Finito from Córdoba, Emilio de Frutos and the bullfighter Jorge Oliva.
