The Colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana will ride with the Movistar Team, his team from 2012 to 2019, in the 2024 season, the telephone squad announced this Saturday, confirming the return of “a symbol of its recent history.”
“A new hope for the man who changed the history of his sport in Colombia. Movistar Team confirms this Saturday that Nairo Quintana will be part of its professional squad in 2024,” Movistar revealed this Saturday.
Quintana, 33 years old, thus returns five seasons later to a team in which he played from 2012 to 2019. “The team led by Eusebio Unzué opens its doors to a legend of its sports structure, one of the cyclists who has achieved the greatest success for the Telefónica brand at the stage in which it has sponsored Abarca Sports since 2011,” he indicated.
With Unzué’s team he won a Giro d’Italia (2014) and a Vuelta a España (2016), in addition to being second twice and third overall in the Tour de France and finishing second again in the transalpine round.
The Colombian was “excited to return home.” “It has been a difficult year. Days without sleep, many days of enormous sacrifice, getting on the bike and trying to walk forward, with sun or rain. But it has been worth it. I am not going to waste the opportunity. I know the values of the team, the values of the sport. I am going to give my all to do well and I want to contribute to the team to obtain the best results,” he said.
