Messi leaves PSG, the club makes it official

MADRID, 3 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Argentine striker Leo Messi ended his two-year stage at Paris Saint-Germain this Saturday with the official announcement of the French club, a final sung in the last days and even advanced by his coach at a press conference on Thursday.

After two seasons in the French capital, Messi’s adventure with Paris PSG will come to an end at the end of the 2022-23 campaign, with the last game of the season this Saturday against Clermont Foot 63. The celebration party for the Ligue 1 at the Parque de los Príncipes will also be a farewell.

Messi leaves Paris without achieving the club’s goal of winning the Champions League along with Kylian Mbappé and Neymar, although he did win two French Leagues and one Super Cup. “The club extends its warmest thanks to the seven times winner of the Ballon d’Or,” says the official statement, after 74 matches of the ’10’ with PSG.

The Argentine star was in all the rumors after a trip to Saudi Arabia for which he was sanctioned by the club. Messi is also in the crosshairs of FC Barcelona, where he left two years ago due to a bad financial situation at the club in his life. From Barcelona they have been clear in his desire to welcome him.

With PSG, Messi, world champion in Qatar, signed 32 goals, the first of which was against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on September 28, 2021, as well as providing 35 assists for Paris Saint Germain. The coach Christophe Galtier has already advanced the Argentine’s goodbye although there was no official statement until this Saturday, hours before his last dance in Paris.

The exit operation in the French capital seems to be on fire since on Friday it was the Spanish defender Sergio Ramos who said goodbye after two seasons. A new slate and clean account at PSG, with Mbappé at the helm if there is no bigger bomb waiting for the bench to move either, due to the obsession with the Champions League.

“I want to thank Leo Messi for his two seasons in Paris. Seeing a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in our team and at the Parc des Princes, winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and inspiring our youngest players has been a pleasure. His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated and we wish Leo and his family all the best for the future.”
