LaLiga modifies the schedules of matchday 23 to “not generate a major problem and avoid the provocation of the RFEF”

MADRID, 21 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

LaLiga has modified this Friday the programming of matchday 23 in the Santander League after knowing the times assigned to the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey and has explained in a statement that it accepts the change so as “not to generate a major problem for the clubs and avoid the provocation of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF)”.

The body chaired by Javier Tebas considers that “even being aware” that “they are right”, they have preferred to modify the schedules of LaLiga Santander Matchday 23 “to give the necessary fit and rest to the clubs participating in the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup”.

In this way, all the matches of the day are modified -on the day or on the hour- with the exception of FC Barcelona-Atlético de Madrid, which remains on Sunday, February 6 (6:15 p.m.) and Real Madrid-Granada, which will be played that same day from 9:00 p.m.

LaLiga indicates, first of all, that “it is a clear error and planning by the RFEF when making the proposal for Copa del Rey dates and it is totally uncertain that the CSD had anything to do with this Cup date as it has recently declared the president of the RFEF”.

In addition, it adds that “both in its first and second calendar proposals”, LaLiga “had never set a competition dispute date during the FIFA period from January 24 to February 1 (all FIFA confederations except UEFA ) and until February 2 the confederation of CONCACAF”.

On the other hand, LaLiga recalled this Friday that “it published the schedules for Matchday 23 on January 14, 2022 as it usually does in advance” and that “since there was no LaLiga Santander matchday on the weekend of 29-30 January, the RFEF had space and days to set the times for the Copa del Rey, respecting the times set by LaLiga on Matchday 23 and respecting the break (…)”.

“We consider as a provocation to LaLiga and its clubs the publication of the schedules of the Copa del Rey without prior consultation or call as has been done in previous qualifiers and for which LaLiga has modified schedules when it has been necessary and fit the matches of the SSMM El Rey Cup”, concludes the LaLiga statement.
