Kyrgios announces his withdrawal from the US Open and remembers Djokovic

Nick Kyrgios will not finally contest the US Open. The Australian, as usual, has been one of the players who has given the most to talk about in the quarantine, immersed in various problems. Among them, the tennis player was very critical with the possibility of holding the US Open with the current situation of the pandemic in the United States. He was also forceful in reproaching the players' performance in the controversial Adria Tour.

Finally, it was Kyrgios himself who ended up revealing that he will not go to New York. It has done through a video in which he reads a letter dedicated to tennis. In the letter, the Australian He remembers the victims of the coronavirus, explains the reasons why he will not play the US Open, and also takes advantage to attack Djokovic, Thiem, Zverev and the rest of the players who attended the Adria Tour.

The full text with which Kyrgios renounces the US Open:

“Dear Tennis.

Let us breathe and remember what is important: health and safety as a community. We can rebuild our sport and the economy, but we can never make up for lost lives.

I have no problem with the USTA taking the US Open forward, and if the players want to go, it is their decision, as long as they act appropriately and safely. No one wants people to keep their jobs as much as I do. I'm talking about the man who works in the restaurant, who cleans, the attendants in the locker room. These are the people who need to get their jobs back the most, and hope they do well.

But, tennis players: you have to act with the interests of each other and work together. You can't be dancing on tables, making money around Europe, or trying to make money quickly by organizing an exhibition. That is very selfish. Think of other people for once. This is what the virus is about. It doesn't care about your world ranking or how much money you have. Act responsibly.

For those players who have been complying with the rules and have acted in a disinterested way: I wish you good luck. Play by taking your own risks. I have no problem with it.

This year I will not play the US Open. It hurts my heart not to be there, competing on one of the biggest stages in the sport, the Arthur Ashe Stadium. But I will not play for the people, for my Australians, for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have lost their lives, for all of you.

It is my decision whether you like it or not, and these are my reasons.

Sincerely,

Nick “.
