Valencia defender José Luis Gayà has suffered a relapse of his injury to the rectus femoris muscle of the quadriceps of his left leg and will have to undergo surgery, the Valencian club confirmed this Tuesday, an operation that will prevent him from being available for the Spanish team in the next Eurocup.
“The captain of Valencia CF, José Luis Gayà, has suffered a relapse of the injury to the rectus femoris muscle of the quadriceps of his left leg, suffered during this Sunday’s match against Girona FC,” reported the ‘che’ entity.
In addition, he announced that the Alicante footballer will have to undergo surgery. “After considering different therapeutic options, the club’s medical services, in agreement with the footballer, have opted for surgery, which will be performed in the near future,” he noted.
On March 17, Gayà was injured during the LaLiga match against Villarreal at La Cerámica, and he did not play for two months. He reappeared on May 16 against Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena, but this Sunday he relapsed from his injury in Mestalla against Girona.
Now, he will miss the Euro Cup. The one from Pedreguer already missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after the then Spanish coach, Luis Enrique Martínez, ruled him out when he learned that he suffered a minor sprain.
