Espanyol asks to eliminate the declines in an official statement

Espanyol, through an official statement, has asked this Monday that the declines in LaLiga be eliminated, arguing that they did not compete on equal terms after the break for the coronavirus.

Hence, he defends that the descent of the teams that lost the category in First Division is without effect.

Taking into account all the conditions that have occurred since the return to competition and in the face of the events of recent days in which various clubs have raised their voices due to the injustice and lack of solutions that are taking place, RCD Espanyol defends the elimination of declines this season in competitions supervised by LaLiga, as has happened in all those organized by the RFEF ”, the Blue and Whites' club defended in the statement issued.

Espanyol recalls that in April all the clubs agreed to resume the competition and avoid bankruptcy in the sector, “an example of solidarity and union that allowed us to save a large part of the income and resume the competition, with the undeniable effort on everyone's part ”.

But now he considers that once the competition was closed, it did not take place under equal conditions and he defends to cancel the declines,

Thus, he argues his position to claim the annulment in three factors that, in his opinion, distort this end of the campaign. First of all remember that “lthe last day of LaLiga SmartBank could not be disputed in a unified way for the suspension of Deportivo de La Coruña – CF Fuenlabrada, which has caused a situation without an easy solution because it may affect third teams ”.

Second, it appeals to lack of public in the stadiums “because it has been a great damage to all the clubs, but, in our case, That circumstance has been much more remarkable since we played against five direct rivals in the fight for permanence. ”

And finally it emphasizes the handicap that Espanyol had, to be the team with the most cases of infected players in the championship. “Clubs like Valencia CF or ourselves have made an effort to compete normally, despite having confirmed that, in the professional squads, during the months of March and April, hthere have been a good number of players infected by COVID-19, with the consequent damage that leaves the disease for many weeks. “

Based on all this, Espanyol considers that despite the fact that the championship has already been finalized, “the situations that have occurred are hopelessly unfair in terms of sports, since in this final of the league there has been no competition under the same conditions of equality as before the suspension

Finally, the entity warns that “the economic impact of COVID-19 will extend to the 20-21 season. If you add to this the economic effect of a decline, the accumulated punishment is devastating and unfair to those affected

The club understands that in the face of a situation caused by a global pandemic, “it can be understandable that a number of situations are directly rewarded (league champion, classifications for European competitions, promotion…) but it is totally unacceptable that it is punished or penalized doubly to the most affected ”.
