Djokovic makes his winning debut in Turin

MADRID, 15 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, world number one, has made his debut in the ATP Finals, the event that brings together the eight best of the season on the men’s circuit in the Italian town of Turin, with a victory over the Norwegian Casper Ruud, (7-6 (4), 6-2) to start his way to what would be his sixth title in the contest.

With his triumph this Monday, the Balkan, who aspires to equal the six ropes of the Swiss Roger Federer, equaled Ivan Lendl as the second player with the most wins in the WTA Finals (39), only behind the Helvetian (59) .

However, Djokovic was forced to come back after world number eight Ruud broke his serve in the first game of the match. The Serbian returned the ‘break’ in the sixth to equalize the contest, and, although he had two opportunities to take the set, he had to resort to the ‘tie-break’ to award it.

The world number one gained confidence and broke the service of his adversary as soon as the second set began, in which another break in the fifth game led him to his first victory in the Green Group of the ATP Finals, where he aspires to lift a trophy that has been resisting for six years.
