This Sunday, calmer now, the Portuguese star dedicated some emotional words to his fans: “Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career. Fortunately I won many titles of international dimension, including Portugal, but putting our country’s name on the highest foot in the world was my biggest dream. I fought for it. I fought hard for this dream.”

“In the 5 appearances I’ve scored in World Cups over the course of 16 years, always alongside great players and supported by millions of Portuguese, I gave it my all. Leaving everything on the field. I never turned my back on the fight and I never gave up on that dream. Sadly yesterday the dream ended,” he wrote on Instagram.

In this sense, the former Real Madrid player highlights his passion for his team: “It’s not worth reacting in heat. I just want everyone to know that a lot has been said, a lot has been written, a lot has been speculated, but my dedication to Portugal has not changed for a moment. I was always one fighting for everyone’s goal and I would never turn my back on my colleagues and my country. There is not much more to say for now.”

To finish, he reflects: “Thank you Portugal. Thank you Qatar. The dream was nice while it lasted… Now, time is expected to be a good advisor and allow everyone to draw their own conclusions.”

Now, Cristiano has a lot to think about. The striker is without a team after he terminated his contract with Manchester United following his controversial interview. At his side, at all times, are Georgina Rodriguez and their five children. This Saturday, after the game, the one from Jaca pulled out her nails for her boy and her opinion about Fernando Santos’s decision to leave Cristiano on the bench at the start of the match was not silent.

“Today your friend and coach made a bad decision. That friend for whom you have so many words of admiration and respect. He himself who brought you into the game, saw how everything changed, but it was too late. You cannot underestimate the best player in the world , his most powerful weapon. Nor can you stand up for someone who does not deserve it. Life gives us lessons. Today we have not lost, we have learned,” wrote the model.
