Carballés, Taberner and Davidovich advance in Indian Wells

Spanish tennis players Carlos Taberner, Roberto Carballés Baena and Alejandro Davidovich passed the first round of the Indian Wells tournament, which is celebrated these days in the Californian desert.

Taberner defeated his compatriot Jaume Munar by a double 6-3 and will have a difficult opponent in the next crossing as he will face the Russian Andrey Rublev, number 5 in the ATP ranking.

For its part, Carballés Baena knocked down Argentine Renzo Olivo by a double 7-5.

Carballés Baena will face Norwegian Casper Ruud in the second round, which currently occupies the tenth position in the world rankings.

The other protagonist of the alegrías in the Spanish delegation was Davidovich, who in one of the last games of the day beat American Steve Johnson 6-7, 6-3, 7-5.

Davidovich will meet South African Lloyd Harris at their next meeting.

The bad news for the Spanish came with the eliminations of Feliciano López and Nuria Parrizas Díaz.

The Toledo fell 3-6 and 6-7 against the American Tommy Paulwhile the grenadine succumbed Against the American Lauren Davis 2-6 and 5-7.

As for the Latino representatives, eArgentine Guido Pella eliminated South Korean Soonwoo Kwon (1-6, 6-3 and 6-4) and the Brazilian Thiago Monteiro lost to the American Tennys Sandgren (4-6 and 3-6).

Pella will play against the Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round.

In the women's draw, one of the points of attention of the day was Kim Clijsters' match, former number one in the WTA ranking and double winner of Indian Wells.

The 38-year-old Belgian who received an invitation from the organizers to play this tournament, she fought the Czech Katerina Siniakova but ended up losing 1-6, 6-2 and 2-6.
