The Carolina Hurricanes and Goalie Cam Ward set a record of sorts when he signed up with the team. The contract was just for one day, and he announced his retirement. He joined the team for a day and retired as a player for Hurricanes!
Cam Ward was the same person who had led the Carolina Hurricanes to win the Stanley Cup championship in 2006. In fact, Ward has been termed to be the key factor who brought Canes to the best possible win 13 years ago. He kept playing for the team for 14 seasons. It was only last year that he moved to Chicago Blackhawks.
There has been a special bonding between Hurricanes and Ward. As Don Waddell, who is the team’s president and general manager claimed “ From his ‘Cam’s Champs’ program to his efforts with the Hurricanes Foundation and time spent teaching at our hockey camps, he had a tremendous impact on this community. We’re proud that he has chosen to retire with the Carolina Hurricanes.”

On his part, Ward was praising the team with equal enthusiasm. His statement read, “Throughout it all, what stayed clear to me was my love for this organization, this city, and this fan base. It is why my family and I call Raleigh home and will continue to call it home”.
He considers it a journey back home after a year away and finds it heartening to retire from the home team.
