Big bang! Chelsea and City back down and leave the Super League

Surprise in England! According to the BBC, Chelsea has backtracked and is preparing the necessary documentation to disengage from the European Super League project.

Despite being one of the 12 promoter clubs of the new competition, the ‘blues’ have reconsidered their position when seeing the rejection that the proposal has generated among their fans.

Less than 48 hours after the announcement of the creation of the Super League, Chelsea would give in to pressure from the footballing estates and would be willing to abandon a project that has met with strong opposition from UEFA, FIFA and the other national leagues.

Before the game between Chelsea and Brighton, around 1,000 fans gathered on the outskirts of Stamford Bridge to protest their participation in the new competition.

As soon as the Super League project was known, UEFA announced that it would study measures against the 12 promoters and that it was considering throwing them out of their competitions. Chelsea, like Manchester City and Real Madrid, is one of the four semi-finalists in the Champions League.

The City also leaves it

The 'citizen' team has also reconsidered its support for the Super League and has even communicated to the other organizers that it does not want to be part of this new competition.

Both Chelsea and City were not the drivers of this plan. In fact, as the BBC assures, they feared being left behind and were the last to get on the boat of such a controversial project. After observing the controversy generated, both clubs have decided to back down and leave the European Super League.

When asked about the issue, Pep Guardiola has not hesitated to criticize the competition promoted by several of the most powerful teams. “This is not sport. I have little information, but it cannot be considered sport when there is no relationship between effort and reward and when success is guaranteed for a few. When it doesn't matter to lose ”.
