In the month of October, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG, was acquitted by the Swiss Justice after reaching a friendly agreement with Jérôme Valcke, former secretary general of FIFA, for an alleged crime of corruption in the acquisition of the television rights of the World Cup in Qatar for BeIN Sports. The sentence, appealed by the Swiss Public Prosecutor's Office, has found irregularities by a Swiss Federal Court.
According to the ruling issued by the Swiss Justice, Al-Khelaïfi carried out unfair and illegal behavior in October 2020 to reach an agreement with Jerôme Valcke for which they were acquitted. Despite the criminal acquittal, this agreement between the two would be corrupt for a crime of “instigation of aggravated unfair management” and “aggravated unfair management”.
The Public Prosecutor of the Swiss Confederation (MPC) appealed in February the sentence in which the PSG president was acquitted, but his appeal will have a verdict at the end of this year or at the latest in 2022. Al-Khelaïfi was accused of handing over a villa in Sardinia to Valcke in order to secure the acquisition of television rights for the Qatar World Cup for the BeIN Media group, of which he is the top leader.
