Berni's goodbye to Inter: zero games and two reds in six years

The story of Tommaso berni (Florence, 1983) is, without a doubt, one of the most curious and striking in the last decade of Serie A. To get into context, it should be noted that it is an Italian soccer goalkeeper, a native of Florence, Hence, it grew in the quarry of one of the most historic clubs in Calcio such as the Fiorentina. However, he was soon going to change the color 'viola' for the 'nerazzurro' of the Inter, a team with which, years later, would give rise to one of the strangest anecdotes to tell.

Shortly after, in 2001, he would make the leap to professional football at the hand of English Wimbledon, thus living his first experience outside of Italy. Instead, he would return after two years without even making his debut. I would do it hand in hand with Ternana, a team that at that time was active in Serie B (Second Division). Paradoxically, the place where he would play the most games throughout his career with a total of 87. Two and a half years were enough to please a Lazio who did not hesitate to sign him.

Therefore, its premiere would arrive in the highest category of Calcio. However, there were only two duels that he played in the 2007-08 season since the holder was a recently signed Fernando Muslera, so in the following campaign he left on loan to the Salernitana. Thus, back to Serie B, he enjoyed minutes (16 duels) with which to gain confidence to return to Lazio.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Five meetings in two years were the impulse for Berni to dissociate himself from the entity 'biancoceleste' and signed as a free agent for Sporting Braga. A place that soon also entered his tourist collection and that dropped out after a mere season with another five games in his locker. After that Portuguese “Erasmus”, He returned to Italy with his signing for Sampdoria. Coincidentally, the team with which he played his last match officially. It was October 12, 2012, in a Sampdoria 0-1 Cagliari.

Since then, he has gone through a brief experience in Torino in 2013-14, where he did not play either, until signing for Inter at the age of 31 in the same summer of 2014. Six seasons later as a 'Nerazzurri', and with 37, he leaves the club without having played a single match officially and, therefore, without having made his debut. The most striking thing about the case is that being the third goalkeeper he has seen up to two red cards from the bench.

Now the doubt resides in the new possible destiny of Berni. What team will dare to give the opportunity to a 37-year-old goalkeeper who has not played in seven seasons, in which he has been sent off twice. Despite this, It is clear that their value in the dressing room has been key when it comes to making a group, as It is no coincidence that Roberto Mancini, Frank De Boer, Stefano Pioli, Luciano Spalletti and, finally, Antonio Conte have counted on him in this way.
