A Super League without privileges

The Super League is making steady progress in its plan to turn the current European football scene upside down. The legal dispute against the alleged UEFA monopoly is already in the hands of the European Court of Luxembourg and, pending a ruling, the organizers of the new tournament continue to work to make it a reality. The last big news has arrived in terms of the format.

According to a document accessed by the German media Wirtschafts Woche, the new Super League would not have permanent members, something that generated a lot of controversy, and would be “100% open.” This initiative, as AS has learned, started from Barcelona, although it was something that others also contemplated. The Catalan team is one of the three that continues publicly in the project together with Madrid and Juventus.

In the document of the new tournament, the Super League clubs open their arms to the rest: “NWe commit you to the fact that the proposed European Super League format abolishes the concept of permanent members and is open to European clubs, “he says. This eight-page letter was addressed to MEPs and the EU Commission under the title “Rethinking the future of football in the EU”.

The Super League, which for a few months has been working with an image and public relations company in London, is pursuing the strategy of changing the sporting format so criticized and abandoning the concept of “closed tournament”. In this way, it is understood that public opinion would change its position, since anyone could play the Super League.

Regarding the type of tournament, According to Wirtschafts Woche, there is the option of two divisions of 20 teams and there would be great news such as the costing of part of the trips for visiting fans or a maximum price for the ticket price.
