Fernando Alonso: “We are missing a couple of tenths, I hope to recover in the race”

MADRID, 28 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) confessed that they are still missing a couple of tenths compared to the rest of the teams in the fight, after being ninth this Friday in the classification of the Belgian Grand Prix, seeking to recover them with race pace on a sprint weekend.

“Classifying has been stressful. Every lap was a new story, you had to adapt all the time to the changes in grip. You had to trust the car, taking the corners faster and faster, it was a bit of an adventure,” he said in statements provided by their teams after Friday in Spa.

The session was once again dominated by Max Verstappen (Red Bull), although he changed the gearbox and had a five-place penalty. Alonso did not change his ninth place on the grid. “We have passed Q1 and Q2, which was one of our main objectives. Q3 was very tight and we finished a few tenths of seventh place, which was the most we could get,” he said.

“I think that the AMR23 behaved well all day, in the end we lack a couple of tenths with the others, in search of the fastest lap above all, but we hope to recover them with rhythm on Sunday”, he added.
