Zverev: “It seems that the injury is very serious”

PARIS, June 4 (PA Media/dpa/EP) –

German tennis player Alexander Zverev assured that the ankle injury he suffered during the Roland Garros semifinals against Rafael Nadal is “very serious”, so his participation in the Wimbledon tournament is in doubt after leaving Philippe Chatrier on crutches .

“It seems that the injury is very serious. But the medical team and the doctors are still checking it.” “A very difficult moment for me on the pitch,” the 25-year-old German said in a video posted on social media.

The score was 7-6 (8), 6-6 in Nadal’s favor when Zverev left the court after landing awkwardly on the baseline, sending the Spaniard – a 13-time winner in Paris – to his 14th Roland Garros final, where He will face Norwegian Casper Ruud this Sunday.

The world number three left the court in a wheelchair and returned on crutches to confirm to the referee that he could not continue. “Obviously a fantastic game until what happened happened,” he said. Finally, he wanted to congratulate Nadal. “It’s an incredible achievement, a 14th final, and I hope he can make some more history,” he said.
