Zverev, disqualified in Acapulco after his embarrassing episode in doubles

The Acapulco Tournament has been left this Tuesday without one of its great stars: the German Alexander Zverev, second favorite for the title. Zverev, who this Tuesday finished playing his first-round match against Jenson Brooksby at 4:54 local time, has been disqualified from the singles draw after the embarrassing episode he starred in during his match in the doubles drawwhere he formed a couple with the Brazilian Marcelo Melo.

At the end of the match between the two against the British Lloyd Glasspool and the Finnish Harri Heliovaara, who won 6-2, 4-6 and 10-6, Zverev went to the chair umpire to ask for explanations for some incident in the match. However, at a certain point Zverev lost his temper and hit the referee’s chair with his racket.who immediately left the track and to the stupor of the fans present at the match.

Hours after what happened, the Acapulco Telcel Mexican Open confirmed through its social networks the decision of the ATP to disqualify Zverev also from the men’s draw for his behavior. “Due to unsportsmanlike conduct at the conclusion of his doubles match on Tuesday night, Alexander Zverev was suspended from the tournament in Acapulco.” In addition to this disqualification, Zverev also faces a serious financial fine for the episode in Acapulco, where he will not be able to face Nadal or Medvedev in a hypothetical final. Zverev’s disqualification allows Peter Gojowczyk, also German, to go to the quarterfinals without playing, who will face John Isner or Cameron Norrie in that round.
