Zverev already surpasses Nadal and Medvedev approaches Djokovic

The Cincinnati Masters 1,000, the last major tournament before the US Open, leaves us with some significant changes or with the possibility of them in the ATP ranking, where little by little the tennis players known as NextGen are gaining ground.

However, at the top of this classification the Serbian appears one more week Novak Djokovic, who already has 335 weeks at the head of the ranking, although this time he does so with 11,113 points, 1,000 less than last week by failing to defend his champion title achieved in 2020.

Djokovic's resignation from the Cincinnati Masters has allowed Daniil Medvedev to close the gap with the Serbian before the US Open. Although the Russian failed to defend his 1,000 champion points in Cincinnati in 2019, this week he loses 640 to stay with 9,980, 1,133 points behind Djokovic. Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, who remains in third position with 8,350 points, completes the podium this week.

The big news of the week in the ranking is the Alexander Zverev's rise to fourth position in the standings and Rafa Nadal's fall to fifth. With the 1,000 points achieved as champion of the 1,000 Masters of Cincinnati, the German is now placed with 8,240, only 110 behind Tsitsipas, and already 425 ahead of Nadal, which this week appears in fifth position with 7,815.

In the rest of the Top-10 there is no change of positions, with Dominic Thiem sixth, Andrey Rublev seventh (and 595 points behind the Austrian), Matteo Berrettini eighth, Roger Federer ninth and Denis Shapovalov tenth and Pablo Carreño twelfth 130 points from Casper Ruud and 255 from the Top-10.

As for the Spanish tennis players, in addition to Nadal and Carreño, Roberto Bautista, Alejandro Davidovich, Albert Ramos, Carlos Alcaraz. Jaume Munar, Pablo Andújar, Pedro Martínez, Roberto Carballés and Feliciano López they remain one more week in the Top-100 of the ATP ranking.
