The former Olympic gymnast Almudena Cid has had an unexpected experience after her recent trip to Thailand, where she enjoyed a few days of rest with her boyfriend, the footballer Gerardo Berodia. What should have been a paradisiacal getaway became, upon his return, an anecdote that, although alarming at first, he now remembers with humor.
Upon his return to Spain, Almudena began to notice persistent pain in his back. At first, he attributed the discomfort to the long transoceanic flight, thinking that perhaps the plane seat had not been completely comfortable. However, the days passed and the pain did not subside. When examining the area, the athlete noticed something peculiar: a supposed mole that seemed injured. It was then that he decided to visit the dermatologist, who gave him a completely unexpected diagnosis: it was not a mole, but a tick that had become attached to his skin. “A tick like that, grabbed, biting. It should have bitten me alive. It bit alive and stayed dead,” Almudena explained with a laugh on her Instagram account, sharing the details of the curious event with her followers.
Christian Gálvez’s ex, who had initially confused the insect with a mole, also joked about the surreality of the situation. “You could even see his mustaches,” he added, making it clear that, although at first it was a scare, he can now laugh about the incident.
Experts explain that it is common not to notice the presence of a tick, since its bites are usually painless. This, added to their small size and ability to camouflage themselves, makes them go unnoticed, as happened in the case of Almudena.
It is essential to take preventive measures when traveling to forested or tropical areas, such as covering your skin, using specific repellents, and checking your body at the end of the day. Ticks can transmit serious diseases, such as Lyme disease or alpha-gal syndrome, underscoring the importance of consulting a doctor if in doubt.
Fortunately, Almudena’s bite had no major consequences, and the tick was removed without complications by the dermatologist. Still, the episode has served as a reminder of how unpredictable vacations in exotic places can be.
Despite the initial scare, Almudena has known how to take the incident with humor. Gerardo Berodia, her boyfriend, did not miss the opportunity to add a humorous comment. “I think it’s not the first tick you’ve got stuck there,” he joked while accompanying Almudena during his story on social networks.
The former gymnast has shared her experience with her followers to warn about the risks associated with tick bites and the importance of paying attention to changes in the body after a trip. “I never thought that a mole could end up being a tick. Always check carefully, because I didn’t even know about it!” he advised.
Now, having recovered from the incident, Almudena plans to remember this episode as another anecdote from her travels. Although you won’t have the best memories of Thai wildlife, you ensure that nothing will stop you from continuing to explore the world with your partner. “It’s part of learning. In the end, not even the ticks can beat us,” he concluded optimistically.
