Yolanda Díaz congratulates Sonsoles Ónega after winning the Planeta with a ‘Galician’ novel that talks about women

The second vice president of the acting Government, Yolanda Díaz, congratulated the journalist, presenter and writer Sonsoles Ónega, who has won the LXXII Planeta Novel Prize 2023 with ‘The Maid’s Daughters’ in the early hours of this Monday.

“Congratulations Sonsoles for this recognition and also to all the finalists of this edition. Let’s continue promoting literature and new stories with which to continue learning and dreaming,” Díaz indicated through his profile on the social network expressed that it has been “a pleasure to participate” in the award ceremony.

Díaz attended the event together with the Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta; the one for Universities, Joan Subirats, the mayor of Barcelona, ​​Jaume Collboni; the Minister of Culture, Natàlia Garriga, and the delegate of the Government in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto. Also, outstanding personalities from the publishing and journalistic world were present such as Pilar Eyre, Víctor Amela, Care Santos, Màrius Carol, Joana Marcús, Gloria Serra, David Jiménez, Manel Fuentes, Boris Izaguirre, Juan de Val and Xabier Fortes, among others.

Ónega (Madrid, 1977) had presented the work with the title ‘Otoño sin ti’ and under the pseudonym Gabriela Monte. It tells the story of a family of Galician businessmen, the Valdés, and covers the first two thirds of the 20th century and places such as exotic Cuba and mysterious Galicia, showing how the women of the family, fighters, created a canning empire in their land. native, but a terrible secret marked their lives forever.

The winner has developed her professional career on different television channels: on CNN+ and Cuatro she chronicled courts; From 2008 to 2018 she was the parliamentary correspondent for Informativos Telecinco, a network in which she also presented the program ‘Ya es día’, and currently she presents ‘Y Ahora Sonsoles’ on Antena 3.
