XPO Logistics expands the use of sustainable biofuel on the Tour

Round transport provider’s trucks powered by HVO will emit up to 85 percent less CO2 than diesel

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

XPO Logistics, provider of freight transport and distribution services for the Tour de France for the 42nd consecutive year, will move more than 570 tons of merchandise in the 3,328 kilometers of the French round in 42 trucks, 18 of them powered by the biofuel Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO).

XPO used biofuels for the first time at the 2021 Tour, with a truck running on B100 fuel made from rapeseed oil. This year, the company expects its alternative fuel fleet to use 49,000 liters of HVO and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 85 percent per kilogram, compared to diesel.

The rest of the XPO trucks deployed for the Tour have Euro 6 engines, the cleanest diesel technology on the market.

The president of XPO Logistics in Europe, Luis Gómez, declared himself “delighted” to provide the Tour with a level of support “unprecedented this year” and that they expand the scope of its sustainable operations. “It is a privilege to collaborate with one of the biggest competitions in the world for more than four decades,” he said.

XPO has a long history as an official partner of world-class sporting events such as the Ironman triathlons in Europe, the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon, the Tour de France in sailing, the Evian Championship in golf, the Arctic Race of Norway in cycling, Freeride World Tour of skiing and snowboarding and, among others, the French Football Cup.
