The coach of FC Barcelona, Xavi Hernández, commented that the Spanish players who have sent a statement asking for more changes in the RFEF, beyond the resignation of former president Luis Rubiales, and resigned while being called up should “speak clearly” and say ” “what really happened” so that there is no room for doubt.
“I don’t know the circumstances or why. They have been clear in the statement. If something is not clear, they are the ones who should clarify this. We know little. I spoke out and was very forceful about what the president saw. This Friday, a total of 39 Spanish footballers, including the vast majority of world champions, requested “forceful changes in leadership positions” of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and stated that those that have been made so far, including the resignation of Luis Rubiales as president, “are not enough” to feel “in a safe place.”
“More than surprising me, it saddens me,” said Xavi. “At the best historical moment of Spanish women’s football (after winning the World Cup) the situation is chaotic. You have to listen to them, they have to explain themselves very well to understand their reasons, I don’t know them,” he reiterated.
“But the situation saddens me, because it was something incredible achieved after so many years and that they are still in this situation… Let everything be clarified, let them clarify it, for the good of Spanish sport,” the Blaugrana coach was sincere.
