Xavi harangues the squad with a wake-up call included

“We continue to grow and that is the most important thing.” This is how clear and forceful Xavi Hernández began his speech this Sunday before starting the morning session. Despite the fact that the final result was not as planned – a defeat at home against Betis (0-1) was undoubtedly the worst case scenario – the Blaugrana coach wanted to offer a positive version of what he saw on the pitch: ” We were very superior the first twenty minutes and the entire second part. We have to keep all the good we have done, which is a lot, and park the result right now, because unfortunately we can no longer change it ”.

Nevertheless, this proactive message from Xavi also had some recrimination to his men, and not only because of the conceded goal, where the coach himself publicly expressed his anger, “It was a situation that we had seen in videos and that we have not been able to solve well”, but in more specific aspects of the attacking game, where although it is true that the team has obvious shortages of troops due to having a good part of its forwards out, it must also be assumed that it has not just found the mechanisms of the goal.

“More than the goal situation itself, we have to improve the pre-goal moments, make one last pass, see the teammate’s uncheck, find the pass between the lines, make good control, which would allow us to play with more resources to score. “, explained the Blaugrana coach to his pupils, recalling that “we create chances”, but “not clear enough”, while acknowledging that the lack of effectiveness is still one of the pending issues of the team.

In any case, There was no anger or recriminations or anything like that. Xavi is more than satisfied with the work of his men in these three weeks that he has led the first team and considers that the team is beginning to assimilate the concepts in an exemplary way and faster than expected, although obviously there is still a long way to go to reach the excellence that Xavi preaches to be able to compete at the highest level and aspire to all the titles.
