World Rugby investigates a possible improper alignment of Spain during the European

MADRID, 29 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

World Rugby, the governing body of world rugby, announced this Monday that it has convened an Independent Judicial Committee to examine a possible improper alignment of a player from the Spanish team during the last European Championship, which could put the classification obtained at risk. for the 2023 World Cup.

The body stressed that a possible infraction of the rule regarding eligibility to play in national teams by the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER) was going to be studied during the last edition of the European Championship, although it did not mention which player it was.

“World Rugby has been made aware of a possible infringement relating to a member of the Spain men’s team. Having concluded initial inquiries, the International Federation believes a formal independent review is warranted as permitted within the terms of participation in the World Cup qualifiers. of the World of Rugby in 2023. The FER has cooperated fully during the initial consultations,” he warned in a statement.

Spain, which qualified for its first World Cup since 1999 after beating Portugal 33-28 on March 13, has already missed out on playing in the 2019 World Cup due to a similar situation, although the FER is sure that ” things have been done correctly.”

“For this reason, we can only wait for the resolution of the independent committee appointed by World Rugby and chaired by Nigel Hampton and assisted by Pamela Woodman and Frank Hadden,” he warned in a statement on his website.
