World Athletics announces the ten finalists for the best female athlete of 2022

MADRID, 12 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

World Athletics, the International Athletics Federation, announced this Wednesday the ten athletes nominated to be chosen as the best of the 2022 season, with names such as the Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the Venezuelan Yulimar Rojas or the American Sydney McLaughlin.

Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won her fifth world title this summer in the 100 meters and conquered the Diamond League, while the Venezuelan jumper also took world golds outdoors and indoors, also achieving a new record of the ‘indoor’ world at the Belgrade event with a jump of 15.74 meters.

For her part, the American hurdler was one of the stars of the summer with her victory in the 400 meter hurdles at the World Championships in Eugene, where she lowered her world record to below 51 seconds with a spectacular 50.68.

Along with her, World Athletics also nominated the Jamaican Shericka Jackson, world champion in the 200 meters, the Nigerian Tobi Amusan, world champion in the 100 hurdles and who set a new world record with 12.12, the American Chase Ealey, champion of the world weight, the Peruvian Kimberly García, double world champion of 20 and 35 km walk, the Kenyan Faith Kipyegon, world champion of 1,500, the Ukrainian
Yaroslava Mahuchikh, indoor world champion in height, and the Bahamian
Shaunae Miller-Uibo, 400m world indoor and outdoor champion.

The voting process to choose the winner will be shared between
the World Council and the World Family, who will cast their votes by email and count 50 and 25 percent respectively, while fans can do so online via World Athletics social media platforms, counting 25 percent remaining. Voting will close at midnight on Monday, October 31, and from that moment World Athletics will announce its five male and female finalists, with the winners being announced through its social networks in early December.
