Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, says he will keep Robert Saleh or Joe Douglas until 2024.

Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, says he will keep Robert Saleh or Joe Douglas until 2024.

On Sunday, owner Woody Johnson promised The Post that head coordinator Robert Saleh and executive vice president Joe Douglas will be back for the 2024 season.

In an exclusive chat before the Jets’ 30-28 win against the Commanders on Sunday, Johnson said, “My choice is to keep them.”

“I believe we’ve made some great steps forward.” There is a lot more team spirit now. It’s better to defend.

The defense needs a few things. After trade for Aaron Rodgers in April, the Jets had high hopes going into the 2023 season.

Things went wrong four plays into their first game of the season against the Bills when Rodgers tore his left Achilles tendon. On Sunday, Trevor Siemian became the Jets’ fourth quarterback who began a game.

Rodgers is coming back in 2024, so it will be hard for the team to find a new coach and general manager to work with the 40-year-old quarterback. He picked the Jets in part because of how well they are run.

Johnson said he wants Douglas along with Saleh back “just to keep things going at the same pace with Aaron as well as the team we have now.” “I told you a year ago that we want a quarterback.

For four plays, we had a quarterback. No one has been able to take his place since then. Everyone can do their job better if there’s a good quarterback. It helps the line and the targets.

After blowing an 20-point lead on Sunday, the Jets came back to win with a last-second field goal.

They are now 6-9. Even though they won on Sunday, the Jets will not be in the playoffs for what will be the 13th straight year. This is the longest playoff drought to North American sports history.

People didn’t think Saleh was in real danger of losing his position, but Johnson’s statement clears up any confusion.

The Jets beat the Washington Commanders 30-28 at MetLife Stadium, but they are now out of the playoffs for the 13th straight season.

Saleh said, “Of course I can sit here and give you arguments why I think I’m an ideal coach.” He also said that he would use the summer to think about how he and the team can get better.

An epic collapse almost took away from Johnson’s pregame support. The Jets lost a 27–7 lead at halftime and were down by one point with 4:52 to play.

Greg Zuerlein had to kick a 54-yard field goal with just under five seconds left to save a stressful win.

Zuerlein, 35, has made 30 of 31 field goals this season. Saleh and Douglas might want to re-sign him when they look at the team’s lineup.

In a season full of ups and downs for the Jets (6-9), particularly at quarterback, he’s been their most dependable player.

Saleh said of Zuerlein’s winning shot, “It was almost like there was no chance that he was going to miss that ball.”

It’s our goal to “aggress it in a way that gets us to the goal that every one of us believe you can get to, and this is a championship,” he said.

Saleh (17–32) missed out on what would have been an embarrassing loss because of Zuerlein. Johnson’s news didn’t bother his players, who said they didn’t think their coach’s job was in danger.

Johnson said, “I want to keep things the same with Aaron as well as the team we have.” We need a quarterback, just like I said last year. For four plays, we had a quarterback.

We weren’t able to find someone else to step in since then. Everyone can do their job better if we have a good quarterback. It helps the line and the targets.
