Without debate between the three candidates for the presidency of Athletic

The Association and the Basque College of Journalists have proceeded to withdraw their offer to hold a debate between the three candidates for the presidency of Athetic. It does not seem, therefore, that there will be a meeting between Barkala, Arechabaleta and Uriarte to defend and exchange opinions on their respective projects.

“Given the controversy that has arisen, based on all kinds of hoaxes and unverified rumors that seek to call into question our impartiality and good work, and not having yet received an official response (in the affirmative or negative) from two of the three candidacies for the presidency of Athletic, no matter how much we have insisted on it, the Association and the Basque College of Journalists have decided to withdraw the offer made to them for the organization of a debate open to the media between the three candidates”, points out the note issued by said group.

“This decision is due to the indignation and deep sadness caused by the fact that a well-intentioned offer on our part has been misunderstood and used in a tortuous and self-serving manner, both by those who manage the respective candidacies in contention, and by some communicators of the sporting field that, from the respective media for which they work, have been throwing an undeserved mantle of suspicion over us gratuitously since yesterday, when they began to talk about this on social media, without the Association or the Basque College of Journalists having spoken in this regard or have confirmed through any of their usual communication channels that we had closed the aforementioned debate to three, much less the format in which it would take place,” the statement continues.

After arguing their decision, from this group they conclude that “Athletic is not only a football club, it is an icon and a benchmark for our land and our culture worldwide. In our opinion, it deserves greater seriousness and height of look on the part of those who aspire to direct it and those who dedicate themselves to informing about their daily work and say they carry its colors in their hearts”.
