Willy Hernangómez: “We must continue growing to reach the optimal moment for the Pre-Olympic”

MADRID, 11 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish basketball player Willy Hernangómez, Barça’s center, has advocated this Tuesday for “continuing in that line of growth” together with his national team teammates “to reach the optimal moment” for the Pre-Olympic Tournament, which will be held in Valencia from the 2nd to the 7th of July.

“It is the second day that we are concentrated. Little by little adapting to the systems again, to the teammates, each one who comes in different points of form and taking that form, because in the end there are many days that we are going to be here, those of us who are going to work, and I believe that little by little we have to continue along that line of growth to reach the optimal moment for the Pre-Olympic,” Hernangómez told the media of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB).

Regarding the upcoming friendly matches against Italy and the Dominican Republic, he described them as “two very important matches for us, to continue growing, to see our level, to continue adding sensations and things that we have to improve.”

“Two important games in which we are also going to give our all, as always, and above all a moment to enjoy the fans, to have them come to cheer us on, to enjoy good basketball. I think that all of Spain really likes the basketball, they enjoy a lot with us, we with them, and we are always delighted to be able to play those friendlies. And then the Pre-Olympic in Valencia, which we know will be full, as always when they come to support us,” predicted the culé center.

Despite everything, he did not advance events. “I prefer to think about working day by day. I think we now have a few weeks of very hard work, a very tough Pre-Olympic, that we have to have the advantage of playing at home with our fans, and hopefully we can enjoy the Olympic Games, which is something unique, that only a few can experience,” he commented after a training session in Malaga.

“I think our goal is to work very hard and reach the best of our possibilities to this Pre-Olympic and give it our all. And once there, I hope everything goes very well with that bit of luck, of work, and we qualify,” he stated. the blaugrana player.

He also spoke about Rudy Fernández, cheered by the Real Madrid fans during the second match of the Endesa League final against UCAM Murcia. “The tribute was actually very nice. Rudy is a legendary player, he is an inspirational player for the generations that come after us and even more to come,” he said about the Madrid player.

“I don’t know if paying tribute to him with a match 2 still undecided is a little early, but he deserves it. And well, here I think we think the same, qualifying from the Pre-Olympic to the Olympics. And Rudy is a player who He is going to help us a lot, he always gives his all, it doesn’t matter if he was 18 years old or almost 40. He is a legend and we love being with him,” Hernangómez concluded.
