Willian José: “I also feel like a Cup champion”

Willian José lives his happiest moments at Wolverhampton, a Premier League team where he plays on loan from Real Sociedad, with a purchase option of around 25 million euros from the British. Last weekend, the Brazilian striker scored his first goal in his 13th game with the English club, against Sheffield United at home, and it was decisive because it was a ‘little goal’: 1-0. Two weeks earlier, the Porto Calvo player celebrated the Copa del Rey de la Real title as if he were still part of the squad.

“It was a very special moment, I watched the whole game,” the Brazilian, who feels part of the success, says in an interview with 'Goal': “I have many friends there, I played games in that competition, so I feel like a champion.” adds Willian José, who actually took part in four of the eight matches of that Copa del Rey, although one of the matches in which he did not intervene was the one that faced Real against Espanyol, for which he was called up and was deleted as measure of pressure so that they let him, without success, go to Tottenham. “If you want to send me a medal, I'm sure it will be well received and lovingly guarded,” he adds.

Whenever Willian José talks about La Real, he does so in the past and when he talks about his future, he does so by linking it with that of the Wolves, despite the fact that he is on loan. “I was there for many years and I know how much everyone wanted to win a title,” says the striker, who played 170 games for Real, in which he scored 62 goals and gave 15 assists. “I did not play the final just because it was postponed by the pandemic, but I followed it as if I was there playing alongside them,” adds the Wolverhampton striker.

At 29 years old, he does not lose his mind to wear the Canarinha: “Serving the Brazilian team is the dream of every player, but it is the result of what we do every day at our club. My main objective today is to be well at Wolves and what may come will be the consequence, ”he says.
