Will Rogers closed the transfer portal and remains in Washington.

Will Rogers, a former quarterback for Mississippi State, informed ESPN that he will not use the NCAA transfer portal to transfer and will instead remain in Washington to play with the Huskies in 2024.

Tuesday, Rogers communicated his decision to Huskies athletic director Jedd Fisch. Subsequently, he resumed his academic pursuits at Washington.

Soon after Rogers came in Seattle, Kalen DeBoer departed Washington to assume the head coaching position at Alabama, through which he entered the portal.

Rogers decided to transfer from Washington to Mississippi State following four successful seasons during which he established himself as the SEC’s No. 2 all-time leading passer.

After rejoining the portal, Rogers conferred with several universities but ultimately concluded that Washington was the most logical choice.

Rogers stated that, despite the considerable focus on program attrition, the appeal of returning to Washington after entering the portal was determined by the decisions of those who remained.

“Some of the guys that Washington,” he explained as the rationale for his return. “The team’s record from the previous year was 14-1.”

If we are to continue from where we’ve left off, this endeavor will be challenging. However, I believe that is precisely why you visit Washington.

“This is a brand-new conference and similar circumstances. However, I have considerable confidence in Coach Fisch and believe he will be prepared to lead us to high-level competition.”

Rogers stated that he hopes this season serves as a transitional year that propels him toward the NFL.

Further, according to Rogers, Fisch’s NFL experience played a role. Fisch, who has served as an offensive coordinator along with quarterback coach in the NFL, is the offensive play-caller for the Washington Redskins.

Rogers stated, “That is the plan,” during a telephone interview with ESPN. “Today, Coach Fisch expressed his intention to handle you with the utmost professionalism befitting a professional football player,” I informed him that I am seeking to accomplish the same thing that I desire.

The decision made by Rogers ignites a surge of good news within the quarterback room at Washington. Sunday, ESPN 300 candidate Demond Williams vowed to follow Fisch to Washington, where he had previously made a commitment to Fisch while attending Arizona.

For the 2024 season, Rogers will be the favorite starter for the Huskies. Washington has also lost Will Haskell through the portal, in addition to Dylan Morris to Madison and Austin Mack to Alabama, respectively, for the NFL.

Dermaricus Davis, the 2024 quarterback signed by Washington, also declared his departure following Williams’ choice.

Rogers became one of the most accomplished players within the portal that winter, accumulating 12,315 passing yards in his time at Mississippi State. This accomplishment occurred almost immediately.

On Sunday, the former Alabama five-star recruit announced to ESPN that he is transferring to Ohio State.

Before to Nick Saban’s retirement on January 10, Sayin signed with the Crimson Tide within December as the only five-star recruit in Alabama’s 2024 class.

Sayin, who entered Ohio State as the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in his class of 2024, is joining fellow top quarterback recruit Air Noland.

Noland is ranked third among pro-style quarterbacks being recruited in 2024. Only Nebraska signee Dylan Raiola was a professional quarterback ranked higher in Rivals’ rankings than both Sayin and Noland.

A few days before the California native transitioned to Ohio State, defensive back Caleb Downs also transferred to OSU from Alabama. As a freshman, Downs had been Alabama’s leading tackler.

Ohio State or coach Ryan Day have secured another recruiting victory with the addition of Sayin, as the Buckeyes attempt to contend for the Big Ten championship and more following three successive defeats to Michigan.

Kadyn Proctor, arguably one of the brightest stars to emerge from Alabama after Nick Saban, announced on Saturday that he will return to his birthplace of Iowa to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Proctor, ranked No. 1 offensive tackle and No. 8 overall player for the Class of 2023 by Rivals, earned first-team SEC honors while starting 14 games at left tackle for Alabama last season.

Having been born in Des Moines and attending high school in the vicinity, he will now enter Iowa City with three years of eligibility remaining.
