Why the Seahawks’ offense collapsed toward the end of their Cowboys game
In his team’s 41-35 loss of the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the refereeing, citing what he called a “error” on a crucial play in the first half.
Carroll was also displeased with the NFL’s perceived excessive officiating. Together, the two teams racked up 257 penalty yards and 19 penalties. We must stop playing this sort of football.”
“Unfortunately, it seems like there was an additional element in this match,” Carroll remarked without being asked to begin his press conference following the game.
“I’m not sure; I think you guys witnessed it more clearly than I did, but this game had a great deal of penalties on both sides.
Late in the first quarter, the Seahawks were set up for a 37-yard kick attempt, but they were called for a delay of game.
Pete Carroll’s team lost its first game since 2010 on Thursday, falling to 34-1 despite scoring 35 or more points.
As play neared the 40-second mark, placekicker Jason Myers signaled officials to restart the clock with a hand gesture.
Carroll was seen shouting from the sidelines in the replays, indicating that he thought a reset was necessary because the ball had been noticed again.
The Seattle Seahawks lost 41-35 in a shootout in Dallas on Thursday night, but their offense woke up and scored touchdowns in five of the team’s first seven possessions before a late-game collapse sealed their destiny.
With three touchdowns, three interceptions, and 334 yards of passing, Geno Smith had an incredible performance.
He outran the Cowboys defense, who has been known to rattle quarterbacks this season with pressure.
But receiver DK Metcalf was the most important player for the Seattle offense, smashing through the Cowboys secondary to 134 yards and three touchdowns on just six catches.
Smith remarked of the wideout, “I thought DK was just playing his game as he always is capable of.” “He’s moving so quickly outside. I believe he reached a speed of 22 mph. Whoa, what a handful of plays he made.
He really is a misfit in the world. I simply enjoy having fun with him. I thought his game was outstanding.
Everything that he accomplished today was fantastic. “The throw was executed with maximum accuracy. He threw it between two defenders so that only I was able to catch it.”
Metcalf claimed to have flashbacks to a 2020 Dallas game in which Trevon Diggs caught him off guard, forcing a fumble that led to the opening touchdown.
“I just saw the ball within the air, and nobody was standing in front of me,” said Metcalf. “A defender behind me smacked it out of my palm the last time I was on the open field. I tried not to think about that time again.
According to Next Gen Stats, Metcalf tormented DaRon Bland, the current Player of the Month, amassing 111 yards off four receptions and all three touchdowns against the corner. When Smith targeted Metcalf against Bland, his passer rating was a perfect 158.3.
Thursday was Metcalf’s second game of 2023 in which he went over 100 yards, his greatest yardage total since going over 149 yards against Detroit in Week 4, 2022, and his first time scoring three touchdowns since defeating the Lions in Week 16, 2021.
