Why King Carlos III looks to the left on the coin that bears his face

New king, new coins. They are 50 pence, they show the left profile of Charles III and will hit the streets of the UK in December. This has been announced by The Royal Mint The Royal Mint. This is the reason why the new monarch looks to the left, not like his mother, Isabel IIwho shows off his straight profile.

“We are honored to reveal the official image of King Charles III that appears for the first time in a collection of commemorative coins for the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II,” reads the official website of The Royal Mint, which has minted coins for the British monarchy for over 1,100 years: “It has been our pride and privilege to mint all UK coins from the remarkable 70-year reign of Elizabeth II.” The commemorative coins will be released this Monday, October 3.

The British sculptor Martin Jennings was in charge of creating the image of Carlos III minted on the new coin. In accordance with the norms established by royal and numismatic tradition, his portrait looks to the left. The coins of the sovereign and of Carlos III will circulate in the coming years.
