Who is the woman who denounced Trump for rape and defamation and what happened in that changing room

The judgment against Donald Trump is what it is: guilty of sexually abusing the writer Elizabeth Jean Carroll in 1996, and years later defaming her when she publicly denounced the assault. Caroll had sued him for rape and defamation.

Hours after this verdict of a federal jury in Manhattan was known, the former US president has spoken on his social network ‘Truth Social’: “It is the biggest witch hunt in history”, and has described it as “a very unfair trial “. He has even gone so far as to say that the verdict is “a disgrace for our country.” He has gone even further by pointing out: “I don’t even know who this woman is, I don’t know her at all. It’s another fraud, a political witch hunt.” And he added: “We must fight, we cannot let our country fall into this abyss.”

As it is a civil case, Trump does not face prison terms, but will have to pay 5 million dollars (more than 4.5 million euros) to Carroll. The plaintiff, through a statement, has shown her gratitude: “It is a victory not only for me, but for all the women who have suffered for not being believed.”

what happened in the fitting room

Carroll declared at the end of April before the US Justice that she had been raped in 1996 by Trump, who at that time had not started his political career and was known as one of the great tycoons in the country.

The court has not considered that there was sufficient evidence to determine whether Trump raped Carroll, but it has found him guilty of sexual abuse.

The events, according to the plaintiff’s account, took place in the Bergdorf Goodman luxury department store in New York. There the two met by chance. The writer and the tycoon started a fool around. They were in the lingerie section. “What started out as fun turned dark,” she confessed. Then in the tester, as Carroll recounted, the rape occurred.

Trump denied the facts. In addition, he accused her of inventing them to sell a book and destroy him politically. The case dates back to 2019, after Carroll sued him for defamation after calling her “crazy” and attacking her physical appearance to deny it. The writer’s lawyers have insisted that at no time did she move for money, but rather for the intention and desire to clear her name.

Carroll, writer and journalist, was born in Detroit (Michigan). In her college years at Indiana, in 1963, she was crowned Miss College and Miss Cheerleader. An avid reader and highly intuitive, she began publishing on Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Elle y Play Boy. He has also written scripts for the television show Saturday Night Live.
