Who is Mike Lynch, the “British Bill Gates” who went missing on the sunken sailboat off Sicily?

At least one person has died and six others are missing after a yacht sank off the coast of Palermo on the Italian island of Sicily on Monday due to a tornado. The vessel sank in the early hours of the morning. The weather forecast had been reported but no details were available. I was expecting that intensity. In it luxury sailboatmanned by 22 people, was going Mike Lynchone of the figures most influential in the field of technology in the United Kingdom and known as the ‘British Bill Gates’.

His wife, Angela Bacareshas been rescued alive. There are another six people missing and the authorities fear that the bodies are inside the ship, sunk at almost 60 meters deep. A group of tourists and the 15 survivors who were on board were spending the summer on the sailboat. Those who have already landed are mostly English citizens; there is also a New Zealander, an Irishman and a Sri Lankan citizen..

Born in 1965 in EssexLynch graduated from King’s College, Cambridge with a degree in Natural sciencesand later, completed a PhD in electrical engineering. This helped him to harvest numerous awards y compliments in Britain and other countries. Years later, he became one of the founders of the software company Autonomy, a business that catapulted him into the world of technology in his native country in the mid-1990s. His career at the head of the company and his desire to compete with the big players in the digital world led to it being awarded the Order of the British EmpireIn 2011 he was appointed Member of the Science and Technology Council in the Government led by the then Prime Minister David CameronHe was also a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society.

In 2018, he was charged by the North American authorities with to increase the firm’s sales, cheat to regulators and cheat to its potential buyer in the sale of Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011, for which he asked for 11.1 billion dollars. But in June of this year, Lynch managed to walk free and acquitted of all charges (up to 15 for fraud) after six years of battling in the courts.
