Brock Purdy got hit by a football for the first time in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers QB has now been hit twice in two games.

But in the fourth quarter, Ravens defensive end Jadeveon Clowney sacked Purdy for 3 yards, making him feel it again.

Purdy said Monday night, after the 49ers lost 33–19 to the Baltimore Ravens, “I played the whole game okay, not thinking regarding it or anything.” He had four interceptions in the game. “It didn’t exist at all.”

“And the way I was tackled upon that play, it lit up again, similar to last week,” Purdy said. “So, I had to get through every step of protocol process all over again in the tent and all that.” That’s pretty much how it went.”

When the head is pulled away from the shoulder, it usually hurts because the muscles in the neck are stretched. When that happens, the nerve can feel stinging or burning all the way up to the arm.

Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers’ coach, said on Tuesday that he doesn’t think Purdy will be affected in any way by getting two stingers in one week.

The first happened eight days before, when Cardinals safety Dennis Gardeck hit Purdy in the head with his helmet.

In a phone conversation with reporters, Shanahan said, “I think he’s going to be fine. I saw how he was last week, heard how he was today, and talked to him Friday night after the game.” “I don’t think it will bother him.

The 49ers (11-4) will play again on Sunday, when they go to the Washington Commanders for a very important Week 17 game.

The 49ers are still in first place in the NFC playoffs, and with wins over the Captains and the Los Angeles Rams to end the season, they can lock up the top seed.

Tuesday night, Purdy had the worst game he’s ever had as a college or NFL quarterback. He completed only 18 of 32 passes, gaining 255 yards and throwing four picks.

He left the action with 7:50 left in the fourth quarter. Sam Darnold, the backup quarterback, took over and finished the game.

He said, “We had just talked about the game scenario; where we were, I just got a stinger and my arm began to come back, feeling normal, among other things.”

“After Sam scored, Shanahan said, “Right now, we’ve decided to go with Sam based on how things are going.”

Plus, we weren’t interested in anything else to show up with the end and all that. But it was just the way things were at the time. That’s why we went along with Sam’s good mood.

Darnold led the 49ers to a touchdown drive that cut the loss to two points. Later, he threw an intercepted pass with one minute left in the game, when the 49ers had a fourth-and-goal from the Ravens’ 17-yard line.
