What Texas and Washington did at the Realignment Bowl to change how college football operates

It’s tough to keep apprised of all of the discussions about changing college football leagues. There are always new teams coming and going. But that’s why we’re here.

The next two years were very different. In 2021, Oklahoma and Texas made the SEC, and the next year, either USC and UCLA made the Big Ten Conference.

This year might have been the year of the most change. There will be 12 teams in the Big 12 in 2024. They are Colorado, USA, Arizona, Arizona State, or Utah.

Oregon and Washington are both leaving the Pac-12 Conference to become part of the Big Ten at the same time.

Cal, Stanford, or SMU will all join the ACC in 2024–25, which is the newest move. The season for 2023 has already started.

NYU in New Orleans Christie Del Conte’s white hat is pulled down inadequate, which covers some of his face.

Maybe he’s doing this so no one will bother him as he goes through an inn hallway filled with Texas fans. The word “mañana” in orange letters is written on Del Conte’s hat.

That word, “tomorrow,” looks good on the face of a man who’s college sports department currently ranks as the richest within the country along with will get even better soon when they move.

Tomorrow is another chance, test, trip, or meeting for Del Conte. June is becoming July, which indicates that the teams in a variety of sports conferences have been shifted around.

In July 2021, Oklahoma and Texas was the first teams to defect from the Big 12 for the SEC. This was the beginning of most latest round of changes.

And even though that big change doesn’t happen up until next summer, it already has had a big effect on college sports. Leagues are working hard to get matters back to normal.

Some things will be different soon. UCLA along with USC will leave the Pac-12 and join what currently constitutes the Big Ten.

Also, that won’t happen until July 2024, when there will be 12 teams in the college football playoffs. On July 1, though, 14 FBS institutions will be leaving leagues completely.

Take a look at the changed and what might happen soon. After Oklahoma and Texas quit, the Big 12 faced a tough spot.

Bob Bowlsby, the commissioner of the league, had to move quickly because his team might have lost what of its stars and finished with only eight.

Yes, that’s what he did. But Bowlsby swiftly added BYU, Cincinnati, the city of Houston, or UCF to the Big 12.  Bowlsby is no longer in the game.

The letters went worldwide on the 10th of September in 2021, a little more than a month shortly after the Chronicle of Houston initially wrote about the beginning of an era of changes.

“One of those conferences is shifting and the other is taking place in the throes of a funeral.” It makes me feel bad.

The news of Texas’ move within the SEC got out in July 2021, and the news of Washington’s change to the Big Ten got out in August 2023.

They served as the first and ultimate dominoes within the latest wave of moves. They were like the college game puzzle pieces that flew around.

Both the Longhorns as well as the Huskies say you shouldn’t blame them. Every school is just a small part of the big business that is college sports.

Even though things change all the time, they made decisions that were most beneficial to their teams.

This made things worse when the biggest or richest names within college football combined to make assured they were kept around to the next round. Each player’s choice made things worse.
