West Ham tests Manchester City, with Liverpool and Arsenal on the prowl

MADRID, 15 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Manchester City will visit a hot West Ham United on matchday 5 of the Premier League, during which Liverpool against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur against Sheffield United and Arsenal at Goodison Park will try to keep the fight for the lead.

Manchester City and West Ham will face each other in a duel between the first and fourth places. Both Pep Guardiola’s team and David Moyes’ team are undefeated this season and are only separated in the table by two points, after the first four league games.

The ‘citizen’ team has started with full triumphs and a rhythm that is difficult to follow, being the only one in its baggage with 12 points out of a possible 12. In addition, star player Erling Haaland has started the season in good shape, scoring six goals in his four games; He even extended the streak with his national team, scoring one of Norway’s two goals against Georgia.

For its part, West Ham has also started the campaign well. They have only dropped two points in the first four rounds, beating top rivals such as Chelsea (3-1) and Brighton & Hove Albion (1-3). And although they have not beaten Manchester City in the Premier since September 2015 (12 defeats and three draws), they will try to confirm their great moment.

One of the main novelties will be experienced on the benches, since Guardiola will once again lead his team on the pitch after recovering from the surgery he underwent on his back. In his absence, Juanma Lillo was in charge of ‘Citizen’ in the victories against Sheffield and Fulham. With the one from Santpedor back at the helm, City will look for a full five wins at the start of the league as they already did in the 2016/17 season.

Liverpool, one of the positive surprises in this start, will want not to lose momentum at the Molineux Stadium. It is a field where, despite losing last season, they have won in four of their last five visits, while Gary O’Neil’s team want to add their second win of the season.

The Reds started with a draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, but since then they have counted everything as victories. A brilliant start that seemed like a chimera due to the final stretch of last year and the departure of important players. However, the good form of Mo Salah, Darwin Núñez and Dominik Szoboszlai, five goals between them, and the defensive solidity, the second team with the fewest goals scored in the Premier, have returned Liverpool to the fight for the title.

For its part, Arsenal will deal with its bad streak in recent years every time it goes to Goodison Park, where it has not won since October 2017. To do so, Mikel Arteta’s team will need greater defensive solidity, its big drawback at this start of the season, as they have only kept a clean sheet in one of their first four games. He points to the starter in attack Gabriel Jesus, who scored last game against Manchester United.

Everton, who have a new owner in the box, will try to achieve against the ‘reds’ the first victory of a campaign that has started with many doubts, adding a single point. In fact, Sean Dyche’s men have been defeated in two home games, extending a streak in which they have only won one of the last seven Premier games.

Another attraction this weekend will be the duel between Manchester United and Brighton, two teams competing in European competition this year. In addition, the match could see the debut of Spanish striker Ansu Fati with the ‘seagulls’. Also notable are Tottenham vs Sheffield and Chelsea’s visit to Bournemouth coached by Andoni Iraola.
