Werner reveals why he chose Chelsea over Liverpool

This Wednesday, at a press conference, Chelsea striker Timo Werner revealed why he chose to sign for the Stamford Bridge club instead of Liverpool, with whom he acknowledged that he was in talks. The German international said he opted for the 'blue' team because it fits perfectly into his game, adding that Chelsea manager Frank Lampard also played a key role in the decision.

Chelsea, who host Liverpool this Sunday, signed the 24-year-old German forward for 50 million euros paid to Leipzig, for whom Werner scored 34 goals in all competitions last season. The London club is the one that has invested the most in reinforcements of the Premier at least for the moment (the market ends on October 5): 223.2 million euros.

“When I decided to leave Leipzig, I spoke with different clubs, like Liverpool, who have a great team. But in the end I decided on Chelsea. Not only because of the style of football but also because of what they have shown me ”, were Werner's words.

“I loved playing for Leipzig, but it was very important for me to come to a club with a vision that suited my style of football. The whole Premier League fits my style. “

The coronavirus pandemic prevented Werner from meeting face to face with Lampard, but the now attacker 'blue' explained how the Chelsea manager was constantly in contact with him by phone and even sent him videos on how he planned to use the German international on him. playing field this season.

“We could not meet before because of the virus. But he called me a lot, sent me a lot of text messages and (sent) media where he showed me where he wants me to play and the style of football he wants … It is really important that you talk about the system he wanted.

On Sunday, Chelsea, who beat Brighton 1-3 on Monday in the first day of the Premier, host Liverpool in the second. The 'reds' beat Leeds 4-3 on Saturday.
